Release your stress and tension with these accessible ideas
Are you experiencing stress? Anxiety? Tension? Do you have a feeling there’s too much to do, but you lack time and energy to go forth with it?
If these words resonates with you, you know what to do. Rest, and relax.
Maybe you’re thinking, “yeah, of course, I know that already…”, but you still don’t take sufficient time to rest. Often the most simple solutions are the ones that work, but we don’t do them, because they are too simple. So, if this is the case for you, I completely understand you, as I write these words also as a reminder to myself. And no one is gonna come and tell us: “Here’s 10.000 dollars and a free flight ticket to a remote paradise island, take a month off and I take care of everything else”, even if that would be awesome.
“When I loose my creativity and joyous drive, I know it’s time to take a break.”
A few days ago I was having a cup of tea with some fellow entrepreneur women in this tiny cafe in Helsinki. As we started talking, we noticed we had a lot in common. All of us love our lives, and the freedom that the entrepreneurship gives us.
If you’re an entrepreneur, you know what it’s like. You would never ever trade your freedom and go back to the 9-5 job. Working for yourself allows you to create your life according to your own desires. But it requires discipline, strength and trust. It takes courage to follow your dreams, even when others put you down. Yet, you’ve heard a calling in your heart, and there’s nothing that can stop you, except perhaps your own fears.
To work for yourself means you have all the free time you ever desire, yet you love your job so much, that you could easily work around the clock. But, you’ve got to take responsibility and give yourself some rest too. The three of us around the café table nodded in agreement, that sometimes you need to force yourself to take the breaks.
And in the end, it’s not really about if you’re an entrepreneur or not, we all experience stress and anxiety, and these ideas are for everyone.
When I loose my creativity and joyous drive, I know it’s time to take a break.
Here’s my favourite methods I use when I need to restore and relax myself:
1. WALKING IN NATURE
Untouched nature is in complete balance and harmony, and as we spend time outdoors, we align ourselves with the peace and harmony of nature. After ten minutes strolling outside in nature I already feel the change; I breathe easier, my mind is calmer and I’m enjoying the present moment.
One simple yoga movement can sometimes do the trick. After a long day I might throw myself on the couch or bed, but I go upside down. I lay on my back and place legs up along the wall, feet pointing towards the sky (called viparita karani in sanskrit). If you’re suffering from anxiety, insomnia, blood pressure issues or muscle fatigue, this could help alleviate the symptoms. This is also exactly what I sometimes do in the middle of the night, if I have difficulties sleeping.
Every single morning I stick to my meditation routine, and that sets a peaceful tone for the day. However, sometimes it’s nice to get a little bit of help on the way, and just sit down and listen to a guided meditation, to find peace and relaxation.
4. THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC
Great music has the power to heal and uplift us in an instant! One of my favourite soft music producers are Kirk Monteaux/Mysoftmusic, who offers a wide range of music, that helps you relax, and tap in to your inherent peace.

5. GET COSY
I love to snuggle up in the sofa, or in the chair on my balcony. I light some candles, burn some incense sticks, and just sit in silence for a little while.
6. CONSCIOUS BREATHING
Take a moment to try this out right now:
Inhale. Exhale. Slowly, deeply and pleasantly. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
And you’re back right in this moment. We get out of balance, because we spend too much time either in the past or planning and worrying about the future. By bringing our attention back to the breath, we also get back into this moment.
Sometimes you get the wonderful possibility to take a longer break. My job allows me to combine work with leisure. So far this year, I had the opportunity to visit the sunny south-east coast of Spain for two weeks. I spend the first week doing absolutely nothing. Just sitting outside, enjoying my breakfast for two hours, strolling along the beach, jumping in the pool, indulging in ice cream, journalling for hours, and just staring into the blue waters at some oceanfront cafe in Moraira. The last days of the holiday I was teaching yoga and holistic health classes at this Summer’s hottest international yoga, music and wellness festival, the City2sand Festival in Calpe. I’ll be back there again next year, and consider yourself invited! Lovers of yoga, music, and wellbeing get together at this one of a kind festival.
8. GIVE YOURSELF A NICE TREAT
Acknowledge all the great work you’ve done and allow yourself a lovely treat.

When I feel out of balance, stressed or tired, I treat myself with a massage, a warm shower, or I go floating. What? Floating? Yes! My favourite place to float is Kellumo.
You litterally get down in a tank, that looks something like an egg of an dinosaur, and it’s filled with warm water and epsom salt. The salt makes you float, and in addition, all your other senses are deprived. You are alone in the smell- and soundless tank.
As a big fan of yoga and meditation, this has been an highly interesting experience. You can feel completely in touch with your higher self, because you become aware of the noise in your head, and you realise none of it is real. What is real, is your pure divine consciousness. I warmly recommend you to check out this service. If you live in Finland, or are visiting Helsinki, give it a try! Drop me a line to firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll be able to get you a good deal on your first try!
Life is hear and now, and it’s meant for us to enjoy.
Balance your work life with meaningful breaks. Hope this list inspires you, and you’ll find some new ideas to relax and renew! Enjoy!
I love you!
