Being vulnerable and sensitive is where you find your strength

"I'm not good enough". How often do we not hear ourselves say this to ourselves? Or actually, we don't really hear it, otherwise we wouldn't pick on ourselves day in and day out. Is it our need to perform, win, advance, be excellent, be successful, be strong - and live up to other people's expectations - that make us exhausted, filled with anxiety and burned out? I think it is time to let ourselves be small and vulnerable. In those feelings we find our strength! Allowing to be hurt The day came, when I finally allowed myself to feel hurt, small and vulnerable. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but I felt it was a remarkable day. I allowed myself to feel hurt, to be the hurt with all my human feelings and emotions. I rolled myself in the feelings of sadness and anxiety, and felt sorry for myself. I did everything I actually been telling others not to do. I let every little cell in my body feel what I tried to suppress for so long. Until I felt it was time to lift myself up again! For ages I was acting strong and resilient but inside of me was an extremely fearful and insecure girl, who just wanted to hide from the harshness of the world. I know many of you are sensitive empaths and you know exactly what I mean. “Yes, your words hurt me. Yes, your ridicule hurt me."    Sensitive empaths experience this world with a heightened sensitivity. They feel other people's emotions in their own body. Sensitivity is your superpower and your empathy is the tool to use your power for the highest and best for all. Why couldn’t I allow myself to feel hurt? I soak myself in my own tears. Tears not only from the hurtful words but also tears of neglecting my own feelings of being hurt. Oh my goodness is it scary to actually let the world know you hurt! To show others you aren't immune against hurtful words and actions.  It's fear that holds us back from showing others our true feelings. If we admit to others, that we feel hurt, we become vulnerable. We are afraid others will turn their back on us, neglecting us and to finally abandon us and we die lonely and alone. The core fear of human being - dying (alone). It's only human to try to change oneself in order to receive acceptance, yet often we loose our...

Ego or heart in the driver’s seat of your life?

The ego mind will fight until the end for it’s existence. It wants to be the driver of your life. However, if you let your heart be the driver - you'll surely experience more peace and joy in your life.   This morning I woke up slowly and sweetly. I hadn't even opened my eyes yet, but my mind started to form sentences, that felt very comforting and meaningful. So I grabbed a pen and some paper and wrote them down. Let me share these morning thoughts with you. How do we recognise the ego mind? The ego mind gets it’s fuel and nourishment from your fear, anxiety, worry and judgement. When you feel shame and guilt, it is also your ego mind running the show. It also wants you to hoard material possessions for it to feel safe and it is happy when you give it a great job related "status" or a “respectable” position in society. It wants you to feel superior and more important than an other human being. To have the ego in charge is not a harmonious way of living. (We’re not trying to remove the ego mind altogether either, we just want to become AWARE and remove it from the driver's seat of our lives. I use the term "ego mind" in a broader perspective, not from a psychological point of view.) Ego driven societal structures Likewise, we have structures, governments and economical systems, that are build on the forces of the ego mind.  In these structures, the greed for power, money and fame is the driving force. As well as is the need to be right, the need to be in control. The ego mind and the fascistic patriarchal structures in this world will do everything they can, to not get caught for what they are. Just like the ego mind does! It want's to keep it's power. These structures are build on everything else, than what your heart and soul stands for. We also see an increase in attempts to silence those for whom these ego driven structures are already revealed. People who speak from a higher inner vision about a new world order based on love and harmony, as well as criticising the ego driven structures,  is censored and banned on social media such as Fb, IG and YouTube. Freedom of speech is altered. The main tool these structures use, to stay in power, is fear. Fear usually keeps us attached...

Your sensitivity is your superpower

Sometimes what we want the most is also what we will be cursing when we get it. Like your sensitivity. It can be both your superpower as well as your biggest reasons for anxiety and stress.   Yoga stuff A few years into my yoga practice, already now some 12 years ago since I started, I got more and more curious about the crazy stuff.  You know, levitating, out of body experiences and reading peoples' mind and all that crazy stuff. How cool would that be, hah! ;) Well, my yoga practice became pretty much just a physical practice. Thought it was fun to push my limits and get the ankle behind my neck. Thought I was somehow advanced and good at what I was doing. Yet, I don't think I had pretty much any idea about what I was doing, or why. Except, I now see clearly, that I so badly wanted to have my yoga teacher's approval, and that's why I pushed my body for more and more. And I trusted my yoga teacher. I thought that surely he knows what he's doing, to bring me closer to the goals of yoga. Just to make it clear, we can all have different goals with yoga. Be clear on what you want from your yoga practice and make sure to tell your teacher about your goals. Otherwise you just become a puppet on a string, dancing according to your teachers wishes and desires. Your teacher isn't God, always keep that in mind. Your teacher is just as much a human being as you are. Your biggest teacher is always the one that is within, your heart.   Empathy About 5-10 years back not many were talking about sensitive empaths, it wasn't a "thing" that it is now. In my first year at school, at age 7, I was voted to be the most empathic person in the class. We were learning about the meaning of different words and empathy was one of the words. Sure, I knew I wanted everyone to be happy and silently suffered when others were bullied, but I also thought that this is how everyone else feels too. Just very recently I've come to realise not everyone experience this world in the same way. Sounds a bit funny when I spell it out like this, of course we all experience this world in our unique way, but for some reason I thought that other...

Stay peaceful, well and happy—not matter what

Peace is like a never ending project. However, the more we pay attention to our overall wellbeing, the easier it gets to continuously choose peace as a way of living. Actually, peace is who we truly are. The peaceful self, is unconditional love embodied in this world. We can work on our own peace, and simultaneously contribute to make this world a more loving place. As I’m writing this, I just finished teaching a meditation class for a digital service design and development studio in downtown Helsinki. The employees are a group of sweethearts that put a lot of mental effort into the work they do. A work that requires them to stay tuned to their creativity in order to succeed. The door to creativity is opened by connecting with the peace we all have inside.   How to stay peaceful? We chatted after the class and all agreed, that when life gets super busy, it all comes down to very basic ways to keep yourself in balance—sufficient sleep, excercise and proper nutrition. In addition, add in some relaxation and meditation practices and we can usually stay balanced.  Body, mind and spirit are closely interlinked. Body starts to have aches and pains if we don’t treat it properly and the mind easily get restless when the body isn’t functioning well. When you loose touch with your heart’s intelligence, such as compassion and understanding, you’ll feel restless and the restlessness is very much present in your body too. Relaxation and exercise helps you reduce especially the restlessness in your body, but indirectly you will feel more calm in your mind, and as you feel an overall calmness, you are automatically connected to your spirit, your heart.   Exercise When I studied to become a yoga therapist one of our beloved teachers was a german orthopedic, who had changed his surgery knife to the tools of yoga, because he had experienced the benefits of yoga himself. Above all, this German man taught us women how to be gentle with ourselves. I found this quite extraordinary, as it's usually us women talking about gentleness and self-love. Yoga is an easy way to connect body, mind and spirit, and to find patience and acceptance with yourself and others. Even if I teach yoga, I don’t think it’s the only way to stay physically fit. Actually, yoga is more a “work in” than a “work out”. Yoga is to work on your inner...

Syyskukan pieni runo

Voisimmeko nousta korkeuksiin, muistaen kauneutemme?   Katse sanoo: "Ota minut syliin. Näen sinut rakkaani. Rakastan juonteita silmiesi ympärillä. Kuulen itkemättömät itkut sydämessäsi. Jokainen sydämen lyönti täynnä kauneutta. Näen sinut rakkaani. Olet ihmeellisen sinnikäs lajitoveri. Noustaan yhdessä rauhaan. Ravitaan toisiamme ymmärryksellä, ilolla, rakkaudella. Rauhan tila on rakkauden tila. Mikä on sinun kokemuksesi herkkyydestä? Kommentoi tähän postaukseen tai lähetä minulle s-postia info (at) monikamakitalo.com. *** Stressin poisto on yksi tapa tulla lähemmäs omaa sisäistä rauhaa ja herkkyyttä. Harmony and healing with the help of nature

Today Sunday April 22 we celebrate Earth Day. I see this day, and the rest of the days of the year, as a possibility to find a deeper gratitude for Mother Earth! Nature heals us into our inherent harmony and balance! Love and gratitude Some years back, I used to practice buddhist meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh's direct student, Sister Thieu, here in Helsinki. I recall especially one practice that she guided for us, even if I don’t remember the words we were supposed to use. However, it was a walking meditation where we felt every single foot step on the floor. Around half way through the practice, a spontaneous feeling of deep gratitude towards the Eearth flooded over me. I felt I needed to apologize to Mother Earth, for not taking her better into consideration. A deep love and compassion for nature started to develop. Perhaps this might sound a bit weird, but I truly love every little expression of life itself. I talk to the plants and the animals, hug the trees and feel a mutual exchange of support and love between myself and nature. All we need to do, is to spend time outdoors in nature, to receive all the healing that we need. Nature gives us all that we need, in any given moment. Our innate peace and harmony is restored, just by taking a walk in nature or the forest. How amazing isn’t that! [caption id="attachment_5882" align="alignnone" width="249"] Spotted this beautiful spring green flower this week as I was out for a walk in nature![/caption] Forrest Therapy A friend of mine send me this link to www.daskranzbach.de/en/forest-therapy-in-kranzbach.html, and I'd like to quote what was written there: “It has been scientifically proven, that spending time in nature – and especially in the forest – is essentially for relaxation and recuperation. As well as oxygen the trees dispense a scent and ethereal oils (Terpene). As you move through the forest your body interacts with the terpene in the highest constitutional way. Breathing in specific Terpene produces so-called, ‘killer cells’ (a form of leukocyte). Our immune system is therefore strengthened and we are better protected against infection. After spending one day in the forest, the number of these natural killer cells in the blood has risen by almost 40%.The effect lasts seven days. After a stay of three days in a forestry area this effect lasts up to 30 days.*” *Clemens G. Arvay, Der Biophilia Effekt...

How to listen to your inner guidance & step into your power

"Reach for your inner guidance".  “All the answers you ever need are found within”. Hah! Haven’t we all heard that before! I’ve been preaching that same message many times myself, "look within" and "step into your power", but I’ve only understood it on a superficial level. I’ve travelled wide and far around this globe, searching for–something. I’ve participated in yoga retreats, learned from gurus in India and Bali and studied books on yoga and spirituality. I’ve trekked the paths in Nepalese Himalayas, became vegetarian by accident and stopped drinking booze. Quit my 9-5 insurance job, sold my home, bought an one way ticket to Borneo, took a leap of faith, and started teaching yoga and meditation full time… Sincerely, I've been living my life to the fullest, yet, something was still missing. I wouldn’t stop and listen to the little voice within. It’s so easy to trust other people’s guidance for us and to forget about our own inner wisdom. Now, of course, it’s great to have trust in other people and to be open to hear what other’s have to say. However, we should never neglect our own inner power and wisdom. No one else will know better how to live your own life, than you. Gurus and teachers come and go in our lives, but there’s only one that will stay forever in your life, and that’s your own heart. It started already late last year, this nagging feeling, that I really should take more silent time for myself. I felt that there was something I didn’t want to see or hear. Something that was just under the surface, but I didn’t want to allow it into my conscious mind. So I kept pushing forward without listening to this nagging feeling, which was my heart trying to get my attention. However, just a few weeks ago there was a sudden change. My eyes a kind of spontaneously started to open. I could see more clearly than in many months before. I realised what my heart had known it already for a long time. I had done the same thing again, as I’ve done before! I had put my teacher up on the piedestal, without questioning anything this person said. Now the time had come to start trusting myself, fully and completely.  Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have a mentor to walk beside you! Yet, how could someone, who doesn’t know...
